Opening Hours

Main Surgery

8.00am - 1.00pm / 2.00 - 6.00pm - Monday to Friday

Extended Hours

We offer evening surgeries on a Monday and Thursday from 6.00pm - 7.00pm. We also offer early morning surgery on Tuesdays from 06.50 - 8.00am. Consultation times for individual doctors are available on request.

Out Of Hours

Emergency cover in Glasgow is provided by GEMS (Glasgow Emergency Medical Service). In an emergency outwith surgery hours, please telephone 620 0333. An answering machine will tell you how to contact the out of hours service. This will normally be the NHS 24 number - 111. The website of NHS 24 is www.nhs24.com and this can be accessed for more information.

Our local GEMS centre is in the Victoria Infirmary, below the Casualty Department. If you require medical attention, you will usually be asked to attend the centre. Free transport will be arranged if necessary. Housecalls will still be available for the housebound or seriously ill.

Please bear in mind that all emergency cover is designed to deal with medical conditions that are too serious to wait until the next working day. We offer urgent appointments every day at the surgery, and would much rather see you ourselves, during the working day, where possible.

NHS Choices

We have added selected videos from NHS Choices to our useful medical information page.

GP Training

Williamwood is a training practice, which means that doctors who are training to become general practitioners are attached to our practice for a period of six or twelve months at a time. You can make an appointment to see one of the trainees in exactly the same way as you do for any of the other doctors or nurses. Their work is closely supervised by the GPs in the practice at all times.

Disabled Facilities

The surgery is a single-storey building with level access from both the car park and the road.

    Urinary Tract Infections

Due to new guidelines, your GP is no longer the first port of call for urine infections (UTI). If you are female and aged 16-65 and think you may have a UTI you should now contact your nearest pharmacy where they will assess you and provide necessary treatment.

    Influenza Infection

Influenza Infection. As you may have seen there is a high level of ‘flu infection in the community at the moment. Health Protection Scotland have issued the following advice; Infection Prevention and Control – ‘Flu is spread from person to person via droplets when coughing or sneezing, or by touching objects and surfaces that are contaminated with the virus (i.e. doorknobs and telephones) and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth. The influenza virus may persist for hours in dried mucus and be transmitted by direct contact. It is spread very easily indoors, which is why it is so prevalent in the winter months, when people spend more time together inside. - If possible, stay at home when you are sick. This will help prevent spreading your illness to others. - Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs - Good respiratory and cough hygiene will reduce the risk of cross-transmission of respiratory illness: Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue when sneezing, coughing, wiping and blowing the nose. Dispose of all used tissues promptly into a waste bin. - Wash hands after coughing, sneezing, using tissues, or after contact with respiratory secretions or objects contaminated by these secretions. - Keep your hands away from your eyes nose and mouth. There is no need to see a doctor or nurse for ‘flu, unless you develop worsening or more serious symptoms such as breathlessness.

    Advanced Nurse Practitioner

We are delighted to announce that Robert MacDonald will join our team on Monday 18th September 2017. Robert has been working as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in a practice in Erskine for many years, and will be joining our medical team alongside our current doctors and nurses. Robert is highly experienced and trained in the diagnosis and treatment of adults and children, and like our current senior nurses, Sister Waters and Nurse Ross, is a registered prescriber. He will further strengthen our clinical team, particularly in dealing with the need for same day medical advice or appointments, and we are looking forward to welcoming him to Williamwood.
